• Amidst a cold war between nature and technology, the lives of four hypersensitive young adults take an unexpected turn as the memory of a shared childhood trauma resurfaces, revealing to them a stirring solution. Cyber Melancholia is a modern fairy tale about a young generation that grows up with the traumas of their ancestors and an innate hypersensitivity. Their disposition enables them to feel the world's pain, "Weltschmerz", in indescribable intensity. Older generations call it a blessing, yet the youth themselves label it a curse.

Cyber Melancholia is a coming-of-age science fiction drama about the "Weltschmerz". A collective melancholy triggered by wars, environmental disasters, and the detachment of body and mind in the cyber world. The story processes emotions such as loss, hope, fear, and loneliness, while toying with the concept of immortality.

  • The CYBER MELANCHOLIA Project is aiming to create a feauture film through the progressive collaboration of artists from different fields, who meet while facing the same condition: a collective sense of melancholy, triggered by a planet on the verge of destruction. Filmmakers, musicians, scientists, painters, digital illustrators and generative artists join forces to translate the idea of Cyber Melancholia. Our vision is to overcome classical genre boundaries by exploring sci-fi through a playful lens. Music, fine arts, code based art and film meet to form an otherworldly symbiosis.

  • We shot a Cyber Melancholia trailer in November 2021 that functions as a proof-of-concept. It presents a first impression of the story idea (created by director-dp duo Andjani Autumn and Ivarr Jacobsen) and the original film score (composed by Lukas Brehm).

The trailer premiered on the vernissage, which took place December 17th 2022 in the spaces of Drink&Draw, at Funkhaus Berlin.
